Awesome in the Off-Season | Myrtle Beach, SC

Year-Round Fun for the Whole Family

Thanks to its subtropical climate, Myrtle Beach enjoys short, mild RipleysAquariumwinters and warm, sunny weather in the spring and fall.  Bring the whole family into town in the off-season and enjoy a relaxing vacation of shopping, entertainment, and attractions.  One of the best places to visit in Myrtle Beach, no matter what the weather, is Broadway at the Beach, a 350-acre oasis of entertainment venues, restaurants, and shops.  This includes the popular Hollywood Wax Museum Entertainment Center, where you can “play with the stars” and snap a photo with wax figures of your famous A-list idols – such as Marilyn Monroe, Johnny Depp, Robert DeNiro, Dolly Parton, and Elvis Presley!  Afterwards, head over to the Backstage Mirror Maze for a mind-bending adventure of infinite reflections or experience a zombie apocalypse at Outbreak, a thrilling haunted walk through an experiment-gone-wrong in a biotech lab.  Be sure to stop by Ripley’s Aquarium, a beautiful two-story facility with wide a variety of marine life, educationalopportunities, and unique experiences including diving with sharks and swimming with stingrays!

Natural Beauty, History & Wildlife

Take advantage of Myrtle Beach’s impressive natural beauty with a BrookgreenGardenswalk through the Brookgreen Gardens. Located in Murrells Inlet just south of Myrtle Beach, this National Historic Landmark features more than 9,000 acres of vibrant gardens, quaint pathways, and over 1,400 sculptures.  Stroll around the grounds on your own, or take a guided tour.  Brookgreen Gardens also offers an on-site restaurant and a wildlife zoo, which is home to native animals that were either bred in captivity or have sustained injuries that prevent them from living in the wild. Admission to Brookgreen Gardens is good for seven days, so you can return multiple times during your vacation if there are specific programs, events, or exhibits that you’d like to explore further.  This year-round attraction is definitely worth the visit!

Calling All Shaggers for Spring Safari

Myrtle Beach Welcomes Shaggers from April 21st-30th

Bring your dancing shoes and cool, beachy attitude to the SOS Spring Safari in North Myrtle Beach on April 21st-30th, 2017. Known as the “biggest adult party on the East Coast,” this event is sponsored by the Society of Stranders, an organization dedicated to preserving the dance, lifestyle, and music of the Carolina Shag. “Shagging,” as it’s popularly known as, is a style of dancing that originated in Myrtle Beach in the 1930s and is an evolved form of the Jitterbug or Eastern Swing dance performed to beach music. The SOS Spring Safari is a celebration of all things shag!

Live Music, Parade, “Tea Parties” & Nightlife

Over the 10-day-long event, a wide variety of activities and events are planned on the Grand Strand. Thousands of shaggers and beach music lovers from all over the East Coast will flock to the area to join the fun. The hub of activity takes place on Main Street, where popular bands play crowd favorites and shag dance instructors offer classes to help dancers brush up on their skills. Whether you are a seasoned shagger, shag newbie, or willing spectator who just wants to learn a step or two, you will love this laid-back party atmosphere. Be sure to stick around for the huge parade that will be held on Main Street at 1:00 p.m. on the final Saturday of the event (April 29th).
