Kids of all ages can spend hours trying all the crazy challenges and tapping into their creative side. There’s even a life-size Lite Brite, optical illusions, a hurricane shack, a giant piano and a replica of the one-person capsule that launched as part of NASA’s Project Mercury.

2. Alligator Adventure

There’s a good chance you’ll get to see a live alligator feeding!

For a unique—and educational—experience, visit Alligator Adventure, one of the most popular attractions in North Myrtle Beach. There’s a good reason they call this place the Reptile Capital of the World. Open seven days a week, Alligator Adventure gives you the exciting opportunity to see hundreds of animal species, including albino alligators, crocs, snakes, lizards, exotic birds, monkeys and hyenas.

This 15-acre park in Barefoot Landing is home to some of the animal kingdom’s most vicious predators, like Utan—considered the largest crocodile on exhibit in the United States at just over 18 feet. There’s a good chance you’ll get to see a live alligator feeding, where massive gators leap from the water to snatch a meal. All of the creatures at Alligator Adventure are a sight to see while you’re visiting Myrtle Beach, SC with kids.

3. Ripley’s Aquarium

Learn about jellyfish, the octopus and other colorful species.

Ripley’s Aquarium is not your average fish tank. Dive in—yes, in the water—to get up close and personal with sea creatures like sea turtles, giant stingrays and even sharks. For something a little less hands-on, try the Glass Bottom Boat Adventure, which puts you in the shark tank separated by a few inches of glass.

Exhibits at Ripley’s Aquarium give kids a glimpse of the vibrant undersea life around the world, including the Rio Amazon and the Indo-Pacific coral reef. They’ll learn about jellyfish, the octopus and other colorful species that inhabit the ocean’s mysterious ecosystem.

4. Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show

A thrilling adventure your kids will always remember.

Don’t just go out to dinner. Go way out—as part of a thrilling adventure you and your kids will always remember. Favorite places to shop

Glass blower
So many shopping options!

Shopping is one of the most popular things to do in North Myrtle Beach for locals as well as visitors. The latest attraction here is Coastal Town Center—a brand-new venue with 21 stores offering clothes, jewelry, crafts sporting goods, food and much more.

Barefoot Landing is a perennial favorite of North Myrtle Beach residents. A relaxing sanctuary along the Intercostal Waterway featuring a 27-acre lake, this destination combines serene surroundings and a niche shopping experience. With 100 different national and local boutiques and restaurants, there’s enough to keep the whole family engaged for an entire day. And if the kids get antsy, Alligator Adventure and the T.I.G.E.R.S. Prevention Station are right next door.

A short drive from North Myrtle Beach, Tanger Outlets is discount city. Large factory outlet stores make up much of the shopping here, and we all know what that means—deals by the bagful. If that’s not enough, you’re just across the highway from more stores and a movie theater at Myrtle Beach Mall.

Favorite places to eat

Seafood Restaurant

No locals’ guide to North Myrtle Beach would be complete without focusing on the fantastic restaurant choices. We could write an entire book on this topic alone, but we’ll just give you a little nibble here. Fresh coastal cuisine and good vibes are always on the menu at Lulu’s, with live music and an outdoor play area. Filet’s on the Water pleases every palate with succulent steaks, sushi and seafood. Flying Fish Public Market and Grill serves up southern delicacies with a side of shrimp. For something on the cozier side, Joe’s Bar and Grill offers amazing cuisine matched only by the panoramic views of the saltwater marsh.

Fulfill your need for speed driving a NASCAR race car around the Myrtle Beach Speedway.

The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is another local treasure, with the gigantic SkyWheel, the Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum and the landmark 2nd Avenue Pier. Channel your inner Jack Sparrow and bring all your buccaneers to catch the swashbuckling excitement of the Pirates Voyage Dinner and Show.
